The Mullen Broncos will face off against the Sandhills/Thedford Knights at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Mullen comes in on six and Sandhills/Thedford on three.
Mullen proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 38) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Maxwell, sneaking past 34-32. The 34-point effort marked the Broncos' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Meanwhile, Sandhills/Thedford got the win against Brady on Thursday by a conclusive 45-20. Considering the Knights have won three contests by more than 23 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Mullen better keep an eye on Maurice Robinson. He was instrumental in Sandhills/Thedford's win, rushing for 274 yards and four TDs while picking up 11.4 yards per carry. Robinson showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 51 yards. Carter Anderson was another key player, gaining 97 total yards and a touchdown.
Sandhills/Thedford didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Brady to a completion percentage of just 47.8%. The team can thank Ethan Rabou for the heroic effort on defense: he. Sandhills/Thedford hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.11 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Sandhills/Thedford didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Thatcher Teahon, Rabou, and Mason Sutton picked up one apiece. Rabou is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made six or more in each of the last 14 games he's played dating back to last season. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Mullen's victory bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Sandhills/Thedford, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.
Mullen took a serious blow against Sandhills/Thedford when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 76-6. Thankfully for the Broncos, Kyle Cox (who rushed for 206 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries, and also threw for 111 yards and four TDs) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
