Softball Recap: Fairfield's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Fairfield's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They came out on top against the Prairie Heights Panthers by a score of 11-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). Considering the Falcons have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Madison Jones made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three doubles, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aliviah Spencer, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Lilly Yoder, who earned three RBI.

Fairfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Prairie Heights only posted a batting average of .095.

With the win, Fairfield broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 16-6. As for Prairie Heights, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-6.

Coming up, Fairfield will take on Tippecanoe Valley at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season. As for Prairie Heights, they will welcome Lakewood Park Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Lakewood Park Christian has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.07 runs per game on average), something Prairie Heights will no doubt try to take advantage of.
