The Life Prep Fire will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Webb City Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. on January 19th. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Life Prep stacked a fourth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Thursday. They really took it to Frontenac for the full four quarters, racking up a 71-36 victory on the road. The win was just what Life Prep needed coming off of a 58-37 defeat in their prior game.
Among those leading the charge was Yarek "Determine" Russell, who scored 14 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Munnings, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Webb City's game two weeks ago was all tied up 24-24 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They came out on top against Joplin by a score of 58-50. Given Webb City's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while Joplin is ranked 327th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Webb City's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Eli Pace led the charge by scoring 15 points along with five assists and five steals. Another player making a difference was Barron Duda, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Life Prep's victory bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Webb City, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's match: Life Prep have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4.5 threes per game. It's a different story for Webb City, though, as they've been averaging only 4.9 threes per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Life Prep was taken down by Webb City 90-61 when the teams last played back in January of 2022. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Life Prep was down 47-23.
