The Poth Pirates will venture away from home to face off against the New Braunfels Christian Academy Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Poth is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.
Poth proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by 16) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Rockport-Fulton, sneaking past 5-3.
Major Luna made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Luna wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Walker Stevens, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Braden Arruda also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Poth was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .455 or higher in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, New Braunfels Christian Academy suffered their biggest loss since March 28, 2024 on Monday. They lost 19-5 to Great Hearts Northern Oaks.
David Shoup made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Hunter Elrod, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Poth's record is now 9-2. As for New Braunfels Christian Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Poth has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like New Braunfels Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
