D1 District 7 (8 Man) recap October 8, 2013
St. Mary's's Michael Wecker rumbled for the longest rushing play in D1 District 7 (8 Man) this season in his game against North Central last week. Wecker scampered for 64 yards on the play and finished with 56 on the day as his team lost to the Knights.
St. Mary's fell to North Central 60-24 last week, the largest margin of any game. Zach Novak ran for 118 yards and caught 3 passes for 55 yards in the loss.
The Cardinals' dynamic duo of Kyle Regan and Novak proved to be unstoppable against Mike Stephen's team, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Regan threw for 75 yards and 1 touchdown and Novak had 55 yards receiving. Tyler Regan helped St. Mary's' passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 20 yards.
Brenden Pelster was a passing and rushing force as Chambers/Wheeler Central lost to Burwell. He completed 7 passes for 61 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 125 yards. Pelster's favorite target this week was Steven Marcellus, who caught 4 passes for 50 yards.
5-foot-11 quarterback Zach Martin of Clearwater/Orchard is the league leader in passing yards this season with 613. He has also thrown 15 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Marcellus. The Chambers/Wheeler Central star has 16 catches for 289 yards.
The Longhorns are in first place, while Boyd County is in fifth place.
The Cyclones led the league in scoring this week after putting up 43 points on the Spartans. Shane Willats ran for 100 yards during the win.
