It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Alamo Heights had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They slipped by the Jay Mustangs 68-67. For the Mules, this counts as revenge for the 62-49 win the Mustangs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2015.
William Whittingstall was nothing short of spectacular: he went 5-for-7 to rack up 23 points. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Elliott, who posted nine points and five boards.
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jarrius Jackson Jr, who went 6-for-12 en route to 21 points. Jackson Jr is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last 13 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Zachariah Linson, who shot 4-for-6 from downtown and almost dropped a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds.
The victory (which was Alamo Heights' fourth in a row) raised their record to 28-8. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.5 points over those games. As for Jay, their defeat ended a 19-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 32-3.
Looking ahead, Alamo Heights is taking a road trip to take on Ray at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Ray knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 14 games -- so hopefully Alamo Heights likes a good challenge.
