The Fountain Valley Danes's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They were the victim of a rough 53-32 loss at the hands of DSST: Cedar. That's two games in a row now that Fountain Valley has lost by exactly 21 points.
Despite the loss, Fountain Valley still got an impressive performance from Quin Lewis, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds. That's the first time this season that Lewis pulled down eight or more rebounds. Isabel Garza was another key contributor, scoring four points along with six rebounds and two steals.
DSST: Cedar found their leader in underclassman Amaya Paul, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten steals. Paul is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Katelyn Fortune, who scored nine points along with four steals.
Fountain Valley now has a losing record at 4-5. As for DSST: Cedar, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season.
Fountain Valley will head out on the road to square off against Peyton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Peyton presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Fountain Valley in Colorado (Peyton is ranked ninth, while Fountain Valley is ranked 271st). As for DSST: Cedar, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Windsor Charter Academy at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Morgan Kimmi and Fortune.
