When it comes to explaining why Coal Ridge lost, one person who can't be blamed is Riley Cheney. Despite the final result, she scored 14 points along with seven rebounds. Brilee Jensen was another key contributor, scoring six points along with two steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Summit to victory, but perhaps none more so than Doussouba Sylla, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sylla has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenya Rodriguez, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and six steals.
Coal Ridge has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. As for Summit, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Coal Ridge won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Delta at 3:00 p.m. on January 13th. Delta is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 53 points per game. As for Summit, they will head out on the road to square off against Buena Vista at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Buena Vista is ranked 156th, while Summit is ranked 178th).
