Basketball Recap: Washington Extends Winning Streak to Four

Washington had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.3 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They took down the Bishop Badgers 87-69. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 180th, while the Badgers are ranked 826th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Washington was led to victory by Jalen Webb and Braylon Pete. Webb went 7 of 16 on his way to 19 points and three steals, while Pete went 8 of 13 on his way to 20 points. What's more, Webb also racked up four boards, the most he's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Elian Williams, who posted 11 points.

Washington was working as a unit and finished the game with 27 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bishop only racked up 17 assists.

Despite the loss, Bishop still got an impressive performance from Kristian Ramos, who dropped a double-double on 34 points and 16 boards. The matchup was Ramos' sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of James Garcia, who put up 11 points in addition to eight assists and five boards.

Washington is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.2 points per game. As for Bishop, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-11.

Washington will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Northside at 6:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025. As for Bishop, they and Corpus Christi United will face off at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Corpus Christi United is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.4 points per game this season.
