MADISON, Miss. -
Germantown (Madison, Miss.) had its advantage, which at one point stood at 14 points, drop to one before the final whistle blew on a 28-27 victory over
Canton (Miss.).
After taking the lead on a field goal by
Reed James in the first quarter, the Mavericks led 13-7 at the half.
Germantown grew its lead to 13 points entering the fourth quarter. GHS's lone score in the quarter came on a
Chester Lewis touchdown run.
The defeat comes as a step back for Canton, who notched a 15-14 victory over Callaway in its previous outing. With the win the Madison school extended its winning streak to three games. The loss broke Canton's three-game winning streak.
In a 5A Region 2 game next week Germantown (7-3) takes on Ridgeland, and Canton (4-6) will go up against Lanier also in a 5A Region 2 game.
