Football Game Preview: Lincoln County Panthers vs. Mingo Central Miners

The Lincoln County Panthers will head out to square off against the Mingo Central Miners at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Lincoln County will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any points last Friday, then bounced right back against St. Albans on Friday. The Panthers blew past the Red Dragons 44-21. Considering the Panthers' offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to David Stephens and Blade Adkins. Stephens gained 131 total yards and four touchdowns while Adkins gained 212 total yards and two touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Adkins a new career-high in rushing yards (129). Jack Shull was another key player, throwing for 120 yards and two touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes.

Lincoln County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 343 rushing yards. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 86.5 rushing yards per game earlier this season, but in their last five contests they've averaged 148.7.

Meanwhile, Mingo Central strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Everything went their way against Logan as they made off with a 48-27 win. The result was nothing new for the Miners, who have now won four games by 20 points or more so far this season.

Lincoln County better keep an eye on Jamere Knuckles. He was instrumental in Mingo Central's win, rushing for 88 yards and four scores, while also throwing for 450 yards and four TDs while completing 76.7% of his passes. A healthy portion of Knuckles' aerial production (142 yards to be exact) went to Terrindez Bryant, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Mingo Central's victory bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Lincoln County, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.
