The Stanton Mustangs managed to keep up with the Tekamah-Herman Tigers until halftime on Saturday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Stanton suffered a rough 53-32 loss at the hands of Tekamah-Herman. Stanton was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Tekamah-Herman apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
Stanton's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Barrett Wilke, who scored 16 points along with 4 steals, and Mitchell Hupp who scored 8 points along with 9 rebounds. Wilke scored a full 50% of Stanton's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Tekamah-Herman got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Griffin Breckenridge out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Breckenridge has scored at least 25% of Tekamah-Herman's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Rogers, who scored 16 points along with 4 steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Stanton and nudges their season record down to 0-2. As for Tekamah-Herman, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Stanton will face off against West Point-Beemer at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully West Point-Beemer focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six on Saturday. As for Tekamah-Herman, they will head out on the road to face off against Wisner-Pilger at 7:45 p.m. on Friday.
