After a string of four wins, the Landon Bears's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They lost to St. Stephen's & St. Agnes at home by a decisive 79-62 margin. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game two weeks ago (57), Landon still had to take the loss.
Landon's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Francis Mannino, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds, and Ubie Zaid who scored 15 points along with five assists and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Zaid has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Aristeides John Hobson, who scored nine points along with three steals.
St. Stephen's & St. Agnes' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Blake Neal led the charge by scoring 18 points along with seven rebounds. Colin Pollock was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with five rebounds.
Landon's loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for St. Stephen's & St. Agnes, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 8-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Landon will take on Episcopal at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Malcolm Stute and Mannino. As for St. Stephen's & St. Agnes, they will be playing at home against St. Albans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in St. Albans' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last nine matches.
