The North Mustangs will take on the Washington Rams at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in North's favor as the squad sits on eight straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Washington has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.
North's tournament run continued when they took on Willcox last Saturday. Couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2024 than the 72-39 stomp they got against Willcox. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matches by 23 points or more this season.
Ayanna Goode was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Xxylina Flores, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 12 points along with six boards and five steals.
Meanwhile, it was close, but last SaturdayWashington capped 2024 with a 45-43 win over Alhambra.
North better focus on containing Ilana Bread and AnyaLisa Carino as the pair were huge in Washington's win. Bread posted 14 points, while Carino had 15 points. The dominant performance gave Bread a new career-high in points.
North has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 44 points. As for Washington, their victory bumped their record up to 2-6.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: North hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 58.7 points per game. It's a different story for Washington, though, as they've been averaging only 31.8 points. The only thing between North and another offensive beatdown is Washington. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Everything went North's way against Washington in their previous meeting back in November of 2014, as North made off with a 58-33 win. Will North repeat their success, or does Washington have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
