West Michigan recap Oct. 23, 2012
Oakridge extended the longest winning streak in West Michigan this week by beating Orchard View, 42-0. The victory was the ninth in a row for the team.
Shelby and Spring Lake played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Shelby eventually emerging with a 14-8 victory.
North Muskegon's dynamic duo of Adrian Anderson and Mitchell Edick proved tough for Glen Lake to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Anderson threw for 130 yards and one touchdown and Edick had 64 yards receiving. Sam Powell helped North Muskegon's passing attack out by catching two balls for 39 yards.
Adam Edick made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Norsemen beat the Lakers. The 6-foot-1 defensive end recorded one fumble.
Zarren Aylor was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 14 carries, he ran for 136 yards as Montague beat Glen Lake. Jacob Buchberger also contributed to the rushing game with 66 yards on the ground.
Mike Belmonte's team's Anderson and Powell have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading West Michigan in both passing and receiving yards. Anderson has thrown for 790 yards this season, while Powell, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 22 catches for 467 yards. Randy Facundo from Hart leads the league in rushing with 674 yards.
The Norsemen made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,454 from 6,633. The advance stemmed from a 22-14 victory over Jerry Angers' team last week.
