Basketball Game Preview: Daphne Trojans vs. Fairhope Pirates

The Daphne Trojans will head out to take on the Fairhope Pirates at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Daphne will be strutting in after a win while Fairhope will be coming in after a defeat.

Daphne is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They really took it to Robertsdale for the full four quarters, racking up a 70-7 victory. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while the Golden Bears are ranked 378th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Abagail Johnson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 13 points and ten steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last 14 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Victoria Moten, who posted nine points and four steals.

Daphne smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 14 consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Fairhope suffered their biggest loss since December 27, 2023 on Friday. They were beaten by Foley 64-36. The defeat continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Lions: they've now lost seven in a row.

Daphne is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.9 points per game. As for Fairhope, their loss dropped their record down to 10-9.

Daphne strolled past Fairhope in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a score of 57-40. The rematch might be a little tougher for Daphne since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
