The Southwest DeKalb Panthers's four-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They had just enough and edged Druid Hills out 66-64. The win was all the more spectacular given Southwest DeKalb's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 318th, while Druid Hills is ranked 91st).
Southwest DeKalb's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Aaron Burks, who scored 14 points along with 5 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Messiah Mergan, who scored 15 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
Southwest DeKalb's win bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Druid Hills, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.
Southwest DeKalb will head out on the road to face off against Miller Grove at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Miller Grove comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Druid Hills, they will square off against Duluth at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Duluth is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
