The East Thunderbirds are ranked highly in their home state, and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of the Scottsbluff Bearcats. East fell 63-51 to Scottsbluff. It was the first time this season that East let down their fans at home.
Scottsbluff found their leader in underclassman Rylee Meininger, who went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 30 points and 1 assist. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Meininger has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Nate Kelley, who scored 14 points along with six assists and three steals.
East's loss ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-2. As for Scottsbluff, their win bumped their record up to 10-3.
East will head out on the road to challenge Laramie at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Laramie's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for Scottsbluff, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Ogallala at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ogallala is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road.
