If the Palmer Ridge Bears were riding high off their 63-32 takedown of the Elizabeth Cardinals last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Palmer Ridge took a 46-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of Discovery Canyon on Thursday. Palmer Ridge was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Discovery Canyon apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Palmer Ridge lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jimmer Weir. Despite the final result, he scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Weir hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Boyer, who scored nine points.
Discovery Canyon found their leader in underclassman Hugh Tarpenning, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Tarpenning has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Michah Rohacs, who scored seven points.
Palmer Ridge's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Discovery Canyon, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-3.
Palmer Ridge on the road again on Saturday and play against Pueblo County at 1:00 p.m. on January 13th. Hopefully Pueblo County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight last Tuesday. As for Discovery Canyon, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Rampart at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Rampart is ranked 97th, while Discovery Canyon is ranked 75th).
