One team took the elevator way up and another took it way down in the power rankings this week. We'll dive into that and more in this week's report.
Look Out Below
After flying high with 64 points the game before, Dexter took quite a dive last week. It simply didn't have it, losing 47 - 7 to Portales. The quarterback felt the defeat most of all -- literally. After five sacks, he is probably hoping to get a little more protection in the future. The rough outing dragged Dexter down five positions in the power rankings -- the largest fall of the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
On paper, the match between La Cueva (2nd in the power rankings) and Eldorado (4th) looked as though it might be one of the more compelling ones, but things did not play out that way on the field. La Cueva had all the answers against Eldorado, winning 40 - 19. La Cueva especially relied on senior D'andre Williams, who rushed for 104 yards and scored on one reception, and senior Dylan Summer, who threw for 246 yards and gained 74 yards on the ground.
Movin on Up
The Kirtland Central offense has been a force to be reckoned with this season, and last week was no different. Everything went its way against Moriarty as it secured a 48 - 12 win. Kirtland Central did have the odds in its favor, but the team did even better than the MaxPreps state rankings indicated. Its success was rewarded with a four-spot boost in the power rankings, the biggest improvement of any team.
