Baseball championship game matchups set

The 3A baseball championship game(s) between Eaton and University has been postponed for today due to heavy rain. University leads Eaton 2-1 heading into the bottom of the second inning. A rescheduled date and time will be determined shortly. ?

The 4A baseball championship game(s) scheduled for 10 a.m. in Colorado Springs have been moved to CSU-Pueblo's Rawlings Field due to unplayable field conditions. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. and an if necessary game will be at 5:30 p.m. 


AURORA - Saturday will mark the finale of the 2022-2023 championship season for the Colorado High School Activities Association, as the organization will crown its four baseball champions.

The final games will be played across multiple sites, with all four championship games in 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A being played Saturday morning. In Friday's consolation games, No. 2 University, No. 4 Golden and No. 25 Cherokee Trail advanced to secure their spots in the championship games.

Tickets to the games can be purchased on GoFan. Please note that all tickets are digital and no cash sales will happen on site. It's highly recommended that you purchase tickets in advance to avoid long lines and to ensure the quickest entry into the stadiums.

5A Championship at All-Star Park in Lakewood

Saturday Preview
No. 25 Cherokee Trail survived Friday's consolation bracket, and has advanced to the title game to face No. 15 seed Valor Christian. Cherokee Trail used a fourth-inning home run to knock off Regis Jesuit, 1-0, in its first consolation game Friday morning. They then required extra innings in their second game, as they scored in the top of the eighth to eliminate Rock Canyon, 10-9. 

This will mark the first meeting between Valor and Cherokee Trail in this tournament bracket. 

Friday Preview
No. 15 seed Valor Christian has dominated the 5A bracket to advance to Saturday’s state championship game at All-Star Park in Lakewood. Valor opened the tournament with a first-round win over No. 10 Rocky Mountain, 12-7, and then posted back-to-back 11-1 wins over No. 3 Regis Jesuit in the second round and No. 5 Rock Canyon in the semifinals.
 
Valor, which won three-straight 4A state titles from 2016-2018, will be playing for its first 5A state title in school history. The championship game is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday with the if needed game set for 12:30 p.m.
 
Valor’s opponent will be the team that emerges from the final two consolation games. The first consolation game will take place on Friday at 10 a.m. and will feature No. 3 Regis Jesuit vs. No. 25 Cherokee Trail. Regis Jesuit opened the tournament with a 9-1 win over No. 6 Chaparral in the first round, before falling to Valor in the second round. They’ve bounced back with a 15-5 win over No. 13 Mountain Vista to advance to the third-round consolation game.
 
Cherokee Trail got off to a hot start, knocking off No. 1 Broomfield, 5-4, before falling to No. 5 Rock Canyon, 7-2, in the second round. They’ve since defeated No. 6 Chaparral, 9-4, and will now face Regis Jesuit.
 
The winner of the Regis Jesuit vs. Cherokee Trail game will advance to face No. 5 Rock Canyon for a chance to advance to the title game. Rock Canyon knocked off No. 13 Mountain Vista, 4-3, and No. 25 Cherokee Trail, 7-2, before falling to Valor, 11-1 in the semifinals.
 

4A Championship at CSU Pueblo's Rawlings Field in Pueblo

Saturday Preview

No. 4 Golden knocked off No. 9 Lutheran, 3-2, and No. 1 Holy Family, 4-1, to secure a spot in Saturday's title game against No. 6 Severance. In its first consolation game on Friday, Golden scored the tying run in the third inning and then the go-ahead run in the fifth inning. Against Holy Family, Golden scored the first four runs of the game and held on for the 4-1 victory. 

This will mark the first meeting between Severance and Golden through this tournament bracket.

Friday Preview
No. 6 seed Severance has knocked off each of the top three seeds in the 4A tournament to secure a spot in the championship game. The Silver Knights opened the tournament with a 7-4 win over No. 3 Cheyenne Mountain in the first round and followed it up with a 14-6 victory over No. 2 Pueblo County in the second round. In the semifinals, Severance knocked in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning and held on for the 6-5 upset victory over top-seeded Holy Family.
 
The championship game appearance will be the first in school history for Severance. It will be played at 10 a.m. on Saturday, with the if needed game following at 12:30 p.m.
 
In the consolation bracket, No. 4 Golden and No. 9 Lutheran will play first on Friday, at 10 a.m., with the winner advancing to take on No. 1 Holy Family at 12:30 p.m. Holy Family defeated both Lutheran, 9-5, and Golden, 8-5, in the first two rounds, respectively, before falling to Severance.
 
Lutheran has played its way back by defeating No. 12 Summit, 6-1, and No. 2 Pueblo County, 6-4. Meanwhile, Golden shutout No. 12 Summit, 9-0, in the first round before falling to the consolation bracket where they defeated No. 10 Riverdale Ridge, 8-1.

3A Championship at Butch Butler Stadium in Greeley was postponed Saturday due to heavy rain

Saturday Preview
The 3A baseball championship game(s) scheduled for 10 a.m. in Greeley have been postponed in the bottom of the second inning with University leading Eaton, 2-1, in the bottom of the second inning. A new game time and location has yet to be determined.

The 3A championship game will be a battle between the top two seeds as No. 2 University advanced through the consolation bracket to secure a spot in the title game. In its first consolation game on Friday, University scored nine runs over the span of three innings to post a 9-5 win over Delta. They followed that up with a five-run second inning against Colorado Academy and added an insurance run in the sixth to avenge an earlier playoff loss to CA, as University held on for a 6-5 victory.

This will be the first meeting between Eaton and University in this tournament bracket.

Friday Preview
Although top-seeded Eaton cruised through its first two games, its semifinal matchup with No. 11 Colorado Academy came down to the wire. Following a 20-4 win over No. 25 Peak to Peak in the first round and a 7-2 defeat of No. 5 Montezuma-Cortez in the second round, Eaton needed a walk-off walk in the bottom of the seventh to escape Colorado Academy, 10-9, and secure its place in Saturday’s 10 a.m. championship game.
 
Colorado Academy, which opened the tournament with a pair of one-run wins - a 7-6 decision over No. 3 Bayfield in the first round and a 5-4 second-round win over No. 2 University – will await the winner of the third-round consolation game between No. 2 University vs. No. 7 Delta.
 
This will mark the second meeting between University and Delta in the championship bracket, as the two teams played in the first round and will again face on Friday at 10 a.m. University escaped with a 13-12 victory to advance to the second round where it fell to Colorado Academy, 5-4.  
 
In the consolation bracket, Delta eliminated No. 3 Bayfield, 12-6, and No. 5 Montezuma Cortez, 13-3. University’s lone consolation game was a 10-0 shutout win over No. 4 Coal Ridge.
 

2A Championship at Rawlings Field in Pueblo

No. 1 Limon and No. 3 Denver Christian will meet Saturday at 11 a.m. for the 2A state championship. 

Top-seeded Limon has dominated its portion of the bracket, outscoring its four opponents 38-10. Limon opened play with a shutout win over No. 32 Sedgwick County, 11-0, and followed it up with a 10-5 victory over No.17 Wray. In the quarterfinals, Limon defeated No. 9 Burlington, before knocking out No. 5 Holyoke, 11-4, i n the semifinals. 

No. 3 Denver Christian hasn't been as explosive offensively, but its defense has been stingy, giving up just five runs in the four games. In allowing just two runs in its first three games, Denver Christian came away with an 8-0 shutout victory over No. 30 Byers in the first round, a 2-1 win over No. 14 Lyons in the second round and a 3-1 win over No. 11 Del Norte in the quarterfinals. An upset win over No. 2 Peyton, 6-3, secured Denver Christian a spot in the championship game. 

Limon will be playing for its third-straight state title, while Denver Christian is looking for its second and first since 2013.
