Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in
high school basketball. America's source for high school sports
continues the tradition to close out the 2022-23 season by naming the
top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and
individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Stewart Erhart of
West Valley (Fairbanks) is the 2022-23 MaxPreps Alaska High School Basketball Player of the Year. The 6-foot-3 senior guard earned that honor for the second straight year after leading the Wolf Pack to a 26-2 record and the Class 4A state championship game.
For the season, Erhart averaged 21.2 points, 7.3 rebounds, 5.3 steals and 4.0 assists per game. He scored 25 points, pulled down nine rebounds in the 53-48 state title loss to Bettye Davis East Anchorage, the first championship game appearance for a team from Fairbanks in over 20 years.
As a junior in 2021-22, Erhart averaged 16.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.8 steals per game en route to his first MaxPreps Alaska Player of the Year honor.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for
inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released in
April. Past selections include 2023 NBA All-Stars Bam Adebayo (2016),
Jaylen Brown (2015), DeMar DeRozan (2008), Kevin Durant (2006), Anthony

(2017), Kyrie Irving (2010), Julius Randle (2013), Jayson Tatum (2016)
