The Yorktown Tigers will head out on the road to take on the New Castle Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Yorktown focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday.
Frankton typically has all the answers at home, but Yorktown proved too difficult a challenge. They escaped with a win against the Eagles by the margin of a single free throw, 47-46. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 13 to 1 on the offensive boards, as Yorktown did.
Yorktown's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Addy Barnes, who scored 14 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilly Sylvester, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, New Castle's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their seventh straight loss. They took a 65-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of Tri. While losing is never fun, New Castle can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 324th, while Tri is ranked 100th).
Yorktown has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. As for New Castle, their loss was their sixth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 2-17.
Everything came up roses for Yorktown against New Castle when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 70-37 win. With Yorktown ahead 29-6 at the half, the game was all but over already.
