The Jefferson Area Falcons will face off against the West Geauga Wolverines at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Jefferson Area knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past five games -- so hopefully West Geauga likes a good challenge.
Last Monday, Jefferson Area got the win against Conneaut by a conclusive 19-3. The victory continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won five in a row.
Olivia Lewis made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Lewis was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Allison Hill was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Alaina Barress, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-5.
Jefferson Area was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .588. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .381 or higher in six consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 12 runs the game before, West Geauga was a bit more limited in their contest on Tuesday. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (12-2), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.
West Geauga saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lely Percassi, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
The win got Jefferson Area back to even at 5-5. As for West Geauga, they dropped their record down to 3-8 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road.
West Geauga's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Jefferson Area has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for West Geauga, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.3 strikeouts. Will Jefferson Area keep running through batters, or will the Wolverines buck the trend?
Everything went Jefferson Area's way against West Geauga when the teams last played back in April of 2019, as Jefferson Area made off with an 8-1 victory. Will the Falcons repeat their success, or do the Wolverines have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
