Gibault Catholic is 0-5 against Red Bud since April of 2017 but things could change on Wednesday. The Hawks will take on the Musketeers at 4:30 p.m. Gibault Catholic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.7 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Gibault Catholic came up short against Sparta and fell 10-6.
Sophie Winkeler was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lauren Lanham was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That home run was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, Red Bud beat Okawville 5-2 on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Musketeers in their matchups with the Rockets: they've now won seven in a row.
Julia Ohlau spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up 12 Ks.
On the hitting side, Ava Wagner was excellent, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Lilly Minemann, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.
Gibault Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Red Bud, their victory bumped their record up to 12-5.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Gibault Catholic has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .454. However, it's not like Red Bud struggles in that department as they've averaged .435. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Gibault Catholic might still be hurting after the 20-5 defeat they got from Red Bud in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
