Audrey Gildea spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Mount Notre Dame saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaylee Braun, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Another was Maddie Robinson, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, Goshen lost 8-2 to Clinton-Massie on Wednesday.
Skye Shaw was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. Shaw was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run.
Mount Notre Dame pushed their record up to 11-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Goshen, their loss dropped their record down to 9-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mount Notre Dame has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Goshen struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Mount Notre Dame's way against Goshen when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Mount Notre Dame made off with an 8-0 victory. Does Mount Notre Dame have another victory up their sleeve, or will Goshen turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
