After a string of three wins, the Palo Verde Titans's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 66-44 walloping at the hands of Sabino. Palo Verde has not had much luck with Sabino recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Palo Verde's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Daniel Ortiz, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. Ortiz hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Kameron Pippen, who scored ten points.
Even though they lost, Palo Verde smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sabino only pulled down four offensive rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sabino to victory, but perhaps none more so than Caden Watkins, who scored 20 points along with nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Brenden Gargus, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds and eight assists.
Palo Verde's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-4. As for Sabino, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-12 record this season.
Palo Verde won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Pusch Ridge Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th. Hopefully Pusch Ridge Christian Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 last Monday. As for Sabino, they will head out on the road to challenge Empire at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
