The South Wake Sabres will head out on the road to face off against the Cary Christian Knights at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. South Wake knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Cary Christian likes a good challenge.
South Wake is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing South Guilford HomeSchool: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Sabres blew the Cougars out of the water with a 73-41 final score. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Sabres had established a 30-point advantage.
Thomas Williams and Daniel Bramble were among the main playmakers for South Wake as the former shot 75% from the field en route to 17 points and the latter almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine boards. What's more, Williams also posted an 83% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in January. Another player making a difference was Simeon Joyner, who went 5-for-6 to rack up 11 points.
Meanwhile, Cary Christian fought the good fight in their overtime game against New Life Camp on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 65-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Storm. The Knights were up 49-34 in the third quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.
South Wake will need to focus on slowing down Birley Weng, one of several Cary Christian players who made an impact when they last played. He shot 83% from the field on his way to 18 points and three steals. Elijah Holmes was another key player, putting up ten points along with six assists and four steals.
South Wake's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Cary Christian, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: South Wake has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 34.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Cary Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25.7 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
South Wake lost to Cary Christian on the road by a decisive 67-49 margin when the teams last played back in January. Thankfully for the Sabres, Andrew Neal (who dropped a double-double with 30 points and 13 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
