Brewer and Azle are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Bears will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Hornets at 6:30 p.m. Brewer will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
On Friday, Brewer earned a 9-5 victory over Granbury.
Cozette Tyson made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over five innings pitched. Tyson was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alyssa Wilson, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Kamren Pride was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Brewer kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 11-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Azle beat Granbury 11-6 on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hornets.
Like Brewer, Azle also got a great game from a two-way player: Fallon Inglet. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Inglet was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Azle let Haley Carlson and Bella Tipton run wild. Carlson scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4, while Tipton went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Those four hits gave Carlson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Daniels, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.
Brewer's win bumped their record up to 16-11. As for Azle, their victory bumped their record up to 8-11-2.
Azle's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Brewer has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Azle, though, as they've been averaging 9.9 hits. Given Brewer's sizable advantage in that area, the Hornets will need to find a way to close that gap.
Brewer took their win against Azle in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 14-6 score. Will the Bears repeat their success, or do the Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
