Norwich Free Academy is 8-2 against Ledyard since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Wildcats will welcome the Colonels at 4:15 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Norwich Free Academy 3.8, Ledyard 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Norwich Free Academy proved they can win big on Monday (they won by six) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Westerly 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted since April 25, 2024.
Dakota Bourdon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, Aubrey Martin was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. That triple was her first of the season. Ava Boenig was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Norwich Free Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westerly only posted an OBP of .250.
Meanwhile, Ledyard waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They came out on top against the Redmen by a score of 10-5.
Ledyard also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Alexia Lemmon gave up three earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits. Lemmon has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Julia Bonser, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Alana Ninteau, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Ledyard's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Norwich Free Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Norwich Free Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .465. However, it's not like Ledyard struggles in that department as they've averaged .547. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Norwich Free Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Ledyard when the teams last played back in April of 2023, winning 7-3. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Colonels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
