Despite their defeat, Portsmouth Christian saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Cloee Comberiati, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards, was perhaps the best of all. Comberiati is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last three games she's played.
Meanwhile, Broadwater Academy had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They had just enough and edged Greenbrier Christian Academy out 34-31.
Broadwater Academy's win came from a few key players Portsmouth Christian will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Tatum Watson, who posted eight points. Kacey Ford was another key player, putting up 14 points.
Broadwater Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2023.
Portsmouth Christian's loss dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Broadwater Academy, their victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-3.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Portsmouth Christian has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 36.9 boards per game. However, it's not like Broadwater Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.7 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Portsmouth Christian came up short against Broadwater Academy when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 47-42. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Broadwater Academy's Leah Smith, who went 6 of 13 on her way to 19 points along with eight boards and seven steals. Now that Portsmouth Christian knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
