Carson is 10-0 against Banning since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Carson Colts will look to defend their home court against the Banning Pilots at 4:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Even though Carson has not done well against Gardena recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Carson sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 57-55 victory over Gardena. The win was all the more spectacular given Carson's disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 750th, while Gardena is ranked 289th).
Carson got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jacob Ortega out in front who scored 23 points. Ortega is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Ferrell, who scored 14 points.
Meanwhile, Banning's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their eighth straight loss. They fell 71-60 to Rancho Dominguez. Banning has not had much luck with Rancho Dominguez recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
The win makes it two in a row for Carson and bumps their season record up to 9-14. As for Banning, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost 13 of their last 15 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season.
Carson strolled past Banning when the teams last played on January 10th by a score of 65-46. Does Carson have another victory up their sleeve, or will Banning turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
