The Rancho Cucamonga Cougars will face off against the Glendora Tartans at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Rancho Cucamonga 2.5, Glendora 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Rancho Cucamonga took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Redlands East Valley a 1-0 shutout. The one-run effort marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Rancho Cucamonga saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brock Foulds, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Rancho Cucamonga hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Redlands East Valley struck out ten times.
While Glendora didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Alta Loma on Saturday as Glendora made off with a 12-4 victory. The Tartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by eight runs or more this season.
Aaron Jacobsen and Tanner Grable made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Jacobsen didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Grable pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). At bat, Jacobsen went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Grable scored a run while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Jackson Glaze and Kai Zeits did most of the damage at the plate: Glaze scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Zeits scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance gave Glaze a new career-high in runs. Sebastian Lawrence also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Glendora has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. Rancho Cucamonga's win bumped their record up to 4-2.
Rancho Cucamonga beat Glendora 3-0 in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Will Rancho Cucamonga repeat their success, or does Glendora have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
