Roane County has gone a perfect 9-0 against South Harrison recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Raiders will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hawks at 4:30 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
On Saturday, Roane County made easy work of Fairmont Senior and carried off a 15-7 victory. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Fair Smelko, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexi Burdette, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, South Harrison made sure to put some runs up on the board against Elkins on Saturday. The Hawks blew past the Tigers 15-7. With that win, the Hawks brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
Emily Squires was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. She also put up a stolen base, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Riley Myers, who went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
South Harrison kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Roane County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.6 runs over those games. As for South Harrison, their win bumped their record up to 4-9.
South Harrison's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Roane County has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.4 hits per game. It's a different story for South Harrison, though, as they've been averaging 9 hits. Given Roane County's sizable advantage in that area, the Hawks will need to find a way to close that gap.
Roane County was able to grind out a solid victory over South Harrison in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 4-0. Will the Raiders repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
