The Lugoff-Elgin Demons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their 16th straight loss. They took a 46-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of Richland Northeast. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Lugoff-Elgin of the 60-48 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in November of 2023.
Despite the defeat, Lugoff-Elgin had strong showings from Kamille Charles, who scored eight points along with 16 rebounds, and Jillian Rush, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 21 rebounds. Rush has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last five times she's played.
Even though they lost, Lugoff-Elgin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Richland Northeast only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.
Richland Northeast's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zimarika Moorer, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Moorer hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games. Another player making a difference was Sasha Cebula, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 rebounds.
Lugoff-Elgin dropped their record down to 3-18 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight at home. As for Richland Northeast, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-9.
Lugoff-Elgin will face off against the Blazers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Ridge View focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 last Tuesday. As for Richland Northeast, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Yellowjackets at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Irmo focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 last Tuesday.
