Mt. Vernon will look to defend their home turf on Friday against New Castle at 7:30 PM. Coming off of a win even when the odds were against them, Mt. Vernon have to be feeling especially confident with the MaxPreps state rankings on their side for this one.
After having lost a blowout in their match two weeks ago against Delta, Mt. Vernon were happy to find some success last Friday. Mt. Vernon took their match against Pendleton Heights 28-14. No one put up better numbers for Mt. Vernon than sophomore Rylan Cole, who brought his A game into the match. He rushed for 151 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 14-49, which was the final score in New Castle's tilt against Delta. New Castle were in a tough position by the half, with the score sitting at 0-35.
Mt. Vernon's win lifted them to 3-3 while New Castle's defeat dropped them down to 4-2. The Mt. Vernon defense got after the quarterback against Pendleton Heights to the tune of 9.5 sacks, so New Castle's offensive line better have put in some good practice this past week in preparation for the contest.
