On Friday, Scammon Bay beat Shishmaref 64-52. Given Scammon Bay's advantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while Shishmaref is ranked 47th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Scammon Bay to victory were Stewie Sundown and Josiah Sundown. Sundown scored 19 points, while Sundown scored 26 points. Sundown is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played.
Several Northern Lights players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Fred Olanna, who scored 17 points. That's the first time this season that Olanna scored 15 or more points. Ivan Davis-Nayokpuk was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Scammon Bay's victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Shishmaref, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.
