The Sunnyside Blue Devils have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matchups by 20 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Buena 73-16 at home. Given Sunnyside's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while Buena is ranked 183rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Nayeli Nidez-Acu?a continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 16 rebounds. The match was her 19th in a row with at least ten points. Janae Pritchett was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with seven steals.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Buena struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Sunnyside racked up 16 assists.
Sunnyside's win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-2. As for Buena, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sunnyside will square off against Cesar Chavez at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Buena will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Ironwood Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on January 11th.
