Fremont has gone 8-2 against Clearfield recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Silverwolves will square off against the Falcons at 3:30 p.m. The contest will give Fremont their first taste of in-conference action this season.
Fremont fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Mountain Ridge on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Sentinels by a score of 8-7. The Silverwolves' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Adelaide Johnsen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and four unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, Abigail Valdez and Chloe Clark stepped up to the plate in a big way. Valdez went a perfect 4-for-4 with one double and one RBI, while Clark went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That RBI marked the first that Valdez has brought in this season. Jocie Johnson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Clearfield). Everything went their way against Weber on Tuesday as they made off with a 19-5 win. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Clearfield also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Hannah Hensley gave up four earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits. Hensley has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Abbie Hale was a standout: she went 4-for-6 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Dishongh, who went 4-for-6 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
Clearfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .620. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Weber only posted an OBP of .344.
Clearfield's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Fremont, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Fremont hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .331. However, it's not like Clearfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .397. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Fremont got the 'W' when the teams last played back in April of 2023 against Clearfield by a conclusive 17-2 score. Will the Silverwolves repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
