The Plainwell Trojans will face off against the Quincy Orioles at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Plainwell and Sturgis meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. Plainwell came out on top against Sturgis by a score of 7-4. The win continues a trend for Plainwell in their matchups with Sturgis: they've now won four in a row.

Andrew Hampton and Luke Filkins made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Hampton tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Meanwhile, Filkins pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Plainwell is undefeated when Filkins allows one or fewer hits, but 8-10-1 otherwise. At bat, Hampton went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double, while Filkins went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Hampton has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Urijah Davis, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Plainwell's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-0-1 (and 6-10 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Nienhuis, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Plainwell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Quincy's hitters rose to the challenge against a Lions pitching crew that boasted an average of only 2.11 runs allowed on Tuesday. The Orioles walked away with a 10-6 victory over Maple Valley.
Joe Gray made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Gray was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, JJ Wright was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Kale Dirschell was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Quincy's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Plainwell, they now have a winning record of 11-10-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Plainwell has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Quincy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
