After a string of four wins, the Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 50-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Central City. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Doniphan-Trumbull has scored all season.
Doniphan-Trumbull lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jack Poppe, who scored nine points along with five assists and four steals. Those five assists set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaedan Detamore, who scored 18 points.
Ayden Zikmund was his usual excellent self, scoring 20 points along with seven rebounds for Central City. The contest was Zikmund's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jakob Ruhl, who scored 16 points.
Doniphan-Trumbull's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-1. As for Central City, they pushed their record up to 5-1 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.
Doniphan-Trumbull is on the road again on Saturday and play against Roncalli Catholic at 8:00 p.m. on December 16th. Central City won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Grand Island Central Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on December 16th. Hopefully Grand Island Central Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday.
