The Stanton Mustangs will be playing at home against the Mead Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Stanton is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
Last Friday, everything came up roses for Stanton at home against Pender as the team secured a 60-20 win. Fans of Stanton have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season ended as a blowout.
Becker Pohlman and Barrett Wilke were among the main playmakers for Stanton as the former rushed for 154 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries and the latter rushed for 194 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 12.1 yards per carry. Wilke's longest rush was for an incredible 73 yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Pender to a paltry 219 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Stanton's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Mitchell Hupp and his three sacks.
Meanwhile, Mead's game on Friday was all tied up 0-0 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They blew past Conestoga 28-6. The result was nothing new for Mead, who have now won three games by 22 points or more so far this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mead to victory, but perhaps none more so than Quinn Carritt, who rushed for 95 yards and a touchdown. Abe Lee got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Stanton's win was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 8-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.5 points per game. As for Mead, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-5.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday' game: Stanton has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 447.1 total yards per game. It's a different story for Mead, though, as they've been averaging only 200.2 per game. Will Stanton be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will Mead flip the ?
