The Air Academy Kadets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 72-55 to Lewis-Palmer. While losing is never fun, Air Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 150th, while Lewis-Palmer is ranked 31st).
When it comes to explaining why Air Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Max Howery. Despite the final result, he scored 29 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Howery hasn't dropped below 15points for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Brennan, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Leading Lewis-Palmer to victory were Noah Johnson and Damarion Jelks. Johnson scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and six assists, while Jelks scored 18 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jelks has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Cohen Edmondson, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds.
Air Academy has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for Lewis-Palmer, their win bumped their record up to 9-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Air Academy will take on Palmer at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Palmer knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Air Academy likes a good challenge. As for Lewis-Palmer, they will head out on the road to face off against Pueblo East at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
