Even though Grand Junction Central scored an imposing 55 points on Saturday, Moffat County still came out on top. Moffat County secured a 59-55 W over Grand Junction Central. The victory was just what Moffat County needed coming off of a 87-46 defeat in their prior contest.
Moffat County had a senior duo take command as Ian Champ hafey dropped a double-double on 21 points and 16 rebounds and Bryant Carlson scored 25 points along with 6 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Carlson has scored at least 25% of Moffat County's points. Another player making a difference was Evan Beaver, who scored 4 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 steals.
Meanwhile, Montrose entered their tilt with Delta with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Montrose enjoyed a cozy 51-32 victory over Delta on Saturday. Given Montrose's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while Delta is ranked 85th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kaleb Ferguson was the offensive standout of the contest as he scored 22 points along with 8 rebounds and 5 steals. The matchup was his third in a row with at least ten points. Jaxon Kattner was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
The victory got Moffat County back to even at 2-2. As for Montrose, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-0.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Moffat County have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 36.5 rebounds per game.
