The North Greene Spartans will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Beardstown Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
North Greene is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against North Mac. North Greene put the hurt on North Mac with a sharp 12-1 victory on Friday. The Spartans not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 15, 2024.
Chelsey Casstleberry made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Eva Schenck was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. Brooklyn Sharrow was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
North Greene always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Mac only posted an OBP of .300.
Meanwhile, Beardstown had just enough and edged out Seymour 7-5 on Wednesday.
Like North Greene, Beardstown also got a great game from a two-way player: Shelby Goodrich. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Goodrich was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kylynn Maltby, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Autumn Bowman, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
