Stanton is 2-8 against West Point-Beemer since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Stanton Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the West Point-Beemer Cadets at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Stanton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Saturday.
Stanton managed to keep up with Tekamah-Herman until halftime, but things quickly went downhill from there. Stanton suffered a tough 53-32 defeat at the hands of Tekamah-Herman. Stanton has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Stanton's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Barrett Wilke, who scored 16 points along with 4 steals, and Mitchell Hupp who scored 8 points along with 9 rebounds. Wilke scored a full 50% of Stanton's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, West Point-Beemer was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Saturday as they fell 30-26 to Yutan.
Despite the loss, West Point-Beemer saw an underclassman step up: Hunter Swanson dropped a double-double on 10 points and 10 rebounds. Colten Haber was another key contributor, scoring 8 points.
The losses dropped Stanton to 0-2 and Tekamah-Herman to 1-1.
Stanton beat West Point-Beemer 51-42 in their previous meeting back in February. Does Stanton have another victory up their sleeve, or will West Point-Beemer turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
