The Desert View Jaguars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their 14th straight defeat. They were beaten by Nogales 40-10. While losing is never fun, Desert View can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 260th, while Nogales is ranked 98th).
Despite the loss, Desert View saw an underclassman step up: Addison Brown scored nine points.
Nogales found their leader in underclassman Alexa Navarro, who scored 25 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. It was the first time this season that Navarro scored 15 or more points. Mia Rodriguez was another key contributor, scoring two points along with nine rebounds and five steals.
Desert View has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 15 of their last 16 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-21 record this season. As for Nogales, they pushed their record up to 12-12 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Desert View won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Cienega at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. Desert View comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 19 points in their last 14 games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Nogales, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Buena at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. Hopefully Buena focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 last Thursday.
