The Western Boone Stars will take on the Southmont Mounties at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Western Boone's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
Western Boone is headed into the contest having just suffered their closest defeat since February 11, 2025 last Saturday. They fell just short of Milan by a score of 68-66. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (59), the Stars still had to take the loss.

Western Boone's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Quinn Westerfeld, who shot 56% from the field on his way to 20 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals, and Jaden Latham, who went 7-for-12 to rack up 17 points. Thanks to that strong game, Latham now owns an excellent 50% shooting accuracy. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristyn Faulk, who posted ten points along with six boards and three steals.
Meanwhile, Southmont was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 55-43 loss to Purdue Polytechnic. The matchup marked the Mounties' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Dean McGaughey and TJ Williams. Williams had a great game and scored 25 points. Meanwhile, McGaughey did his best for the losing side, putting up 20 points.
Southmont's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Western Boone, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Western Boone has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 26.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Southmont struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.6 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Western Boone beat Southmont 73-64 in their previous meeting back in December of 2025. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was McGaughey, who went 11-for-16 en route to 31 points. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Stars still be able to contain McGaughey? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
