Even though the Scammon Bay Eagles have not done well against the Tikigaq Harpooners recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Scammon Bay came out on top against Tikigaq by a score of 65-58. Given Scammon Bay's advantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while Tikigaq is ranked 77th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Scammon Bay to victory, but perhaps none more so than Josiah Sundown, who scored 26 points. Sundown is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. Stewie Sundown was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.
Scammon Bay has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. As for Tikigaq, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 3-12.
Scammon Bay's road trip will continue as they head out to face Nunamiut at 4:30 p.m. on January 27th. Nunamiut knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matchups -- so hopefully Scammon Bay likes a good challenge. Tikigaq does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
