Baseball Recap: Franklin County Wins Going Away Against Vernon

Franklin County got themselves on the board against Vernon on Thursday, but Vernon never followed suit. They blew past the Yellowjackets 11-0. Considering the Seahawks have won eight games by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Vernon's batters probably weren't too happy with Gabe Kelly, who pitched a no hitter (he gave up zero walks). Kelly has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Nolan Alford and Karcen Poloronis did most of the damage at the plate: Alford scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2, while Poloronis scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Those two stolen bases gave Alford a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayden Drake, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Franklin County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .643. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vernon only posted an OBP of .000.

Franklin County is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Vernon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-15.

Franklin County wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 16-1 victory against Munroe on the 4th. As for Vernon, they will take on Sneads at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
